Just two hours east of Toronto, Stirling is an idyllic rural village of 2,000 people, located within the Township of Stirling-Rawdon and part of Hastings County.
Stirling proudly maintains extensive public gardens gathered around a rustic covered bridge, an agricultural museum, a 400-seat theatre and thriving library, numerous walking trails with extensive tree canopies, an historic train station, well preserved architecture – and just one traffic light!
The Stirling & District Horticultural Society was founded in 1897 and has been in continuous service ever since, planning, planting and maintaining the public gardens. The Society also plants trees, holds fun educational sessions for children and hosts flower shows, competitions and workshops. Working closely with many local clubs and organizations, the Society continues to encourage the creation of pollinator and “nook” gardens throughout the district.
The “Little Village With a Big Heart” enjoys year-round events and attractions, including a Friday night Farmer’s Market, the August Fair and the annual “Kegs, Corks and Curds” food and beverage festival.
Stirling’s positive and energetic approach to country living resulted in being named the 2012 Kraft Hockeyville winner after gaining more than 3.9 million votes. To celebrate Stirling’s 150th Anniversary in 2008, Stirling entered the Guiness Book of World Records by successfully organizing the World’s Longest Tractor Parade, featuring 601 new and vintage tractors.
Stirling is always eager to show visitors our beautiful village, as we continue to thrive, grow and prosper by celebrating the past and looking responsibly towards the future.
